I wanted to go on the San Francisco Treasure Hunt ever since I moved here!  Jayson Wechter created an event so spectacular it could only happen here.  I  couldn't get that many photos since we were on a serious deadline.  Many of the locations were too dark anyway or what made them special couldn't be duplicated with a picture alone, like the lonely shrine by the museum (I hear they used to advertise nautical instruments next door).  There were several dark, narrow alleyways with neon signs marking shady bars, sounds from the parade echoing off painted-over brick walls and red and gold flags hanging from the fire escapes.  The ever present phenomenon of spotting other people clutching sets of clues and trying to throw them off the trail was an ongoing pleasure: "meow!" and "Oh! Look across the street!" worked well on several occasions.  My feet hurt like hell when it was all done, but we had a total blast and I'd do it again... a castle with a white bird, indeed!

Elementary, my dear Harzak! Of course, Miss Wonderly. Will they donate it to a restaurant later? No way we'll get a cab in this.
Gee, I wonder if this is the right place? Yeahi, I think it is. For the Festival of Lanterns several large scale pieces were created. This is Grant, one of the main byways through Chinatown. The air is still smoky from all the fireworks.

See, I hung onto that thing for a reason! Melissa made it a total cake walk. We would have gotten three more with more time! ...or that loner by Front Street.
Somehow I doubt that is going to help us. Hey, hats are vital to identify each other in large crowds. 14 out of 19 is pretty damn good for 4 hours and over 2.6 miles (and all of it was UPHILL). We didn't cheat like those girls by Jack Kerouac!  (We came in 22nd out of 81 teams.)

You love me how long? The eightfold way: beer, wine, whiskey, scotch, gin, rum, vodka and mixers. Well they weren't going to get any sleep anyhow!
While I was a bit too busy running around looking for flightless white birds and rising suns, I did capture some of the scenery. To me, this picture captures some of Chinatown's tawdry history.  This must be a new form of enlightenment. The noise was everywhere- kids set off fireworks until about midnight- the perfect spooky backdrop to the hunt!
