He admits it!
Rappinrobot: weird. i say i hate old movies. Rappinrobot: then i love all the ones you show to me and cant stop talking about them.
I just wanted to archive this little tidbit to back up any future balking at my additions of "old movies" onto the Netflix queue. How else will he ever become familiar with the likes of "The Thin Man" or "Night of the Hunter"? So please don't send back "Arsenic and Old Lace" until you've given it a chance. (Of course instead of bringing home "a movie, one that's old" we all know what you could end up with- either way you might need Kleenex.)

And now for something different
A journal post from ME without a PHOTO. We're getting ready for the New Years Party... we've asked all guests to bring something that represents the worst thing that happened, or at least a memorable bad moment from 2002, and we'll BURN IT to prepare for the new year. It took me a while to think up something bad that happened for my part of the burning, and I think I'm going to burn the map to the SF City Tow Yard from when my new car got towed during Meilssa's Bridal Shower tea party and of course the ensuing hissy fit. Oh lord, George is singing "I'm Easy Like Sunday Morning" right now and it is NOT even Sunday. But anyway back to New Years. If you are reading this, you're invited, just let us know you'd like to come and we'll give you the details. And now a question... do you think New Years Resolutions are useful or a waste of time?

Busy at work on the Play
We've both been madly typing up the play and we finished ahead of schedule. A Rivello first! It could be the spookiest yet.

Also, Joe Franko had a Tapas party. The food was very good as was the company. Check out the pics here

Site Updates
Reformatted the second tier pages (such as this one) to reflect the new site style and incorporate icon artwork George created for the site. Hurrah- no more canned blog template! Lots of new photos including our trip to the movies and various holiday shindigs. LE's Gallery got a revamp, showing her latest projects and making room for the new journal section. Also added a link to Rey and Laura's dinner party page.

Overheard at Peets
This is too good a comeback to not document, even if it was at my expense. The exchange went something like this:
G: *disparaging comment about Z* Z: You better be nice to me- bear in mind that I cook dinner and could mess with your food. G: You mean you haven't been messing with it already? How much worse could it get?

Say goodbye to the orange street condo
escrow closes this week. I went in this morning (mon dec 16 ) to sign the closing documents. The buyers still need to sign and then thier loan has to fund ( which is already approved ). After that, the condo loan gets paid off and the difference goes into my checking acct. After that, the first thing im going to do is pay back Ellie! I also got my camera usb drivers installed at work. No small feat since it first installed in Spanish for some reason and it was el infierno trying to get them back to ingles.

Gangs of New York
( exerpt from Greg's previews )
The era of Tammany Hall is one that most people learn about in high school (well, they should, at least), but there's not really been a modern movie or other cultural piece for people to relate to about this important era in American history. It's true this film is about "gangs", but it's also about Boss Tweed, and the grip that he had on the city for decades. We all know about how grimy life was in Victorian Era London (Jack the Ripper, Sherlock Holmes, etc.), but the dark side of New York in the 1800's is not as well depicted. Martin Scorsese reportedly has wanted to do this movie for a long time, and he's obviously well-suited for it. As to the casting of Leonardo DiCaprio, well, that should help Miramax and Disney sell this film and thus allow Martin the checkbook he needs to pull this big project off. For Leonardo, this is also a good project, as it gives him another meaty role that isn't just for his teenage fans and magazine spreads. (Though there'll certainly be some of that as well.. he is Leonardo after all).

This will be Daniel Day Lewis's first film in 4 years since The Boxer. Lets face it. He looks really cool and scary in that hat. DeFoe was supposed to be The Butcher, but he backed out, much as I like him I think Daniel Day Lewis is the right guy for this movie!
