oh and ps
Things are going great. I just submitted my first invoice as part of my consulting business and incurred my first expenses- office supplies! I love office supplies and can now start organizing my work area to incorporate all the books, etc I dragged home from my previous office. It has been a while since I worked at home- I forgot how many books and files and stuff I had. I guess I shouldn't have got rid of those handy black shelves I used to have. When I get it all set up, I'll post a photo. The shelving I just purchased is so heavy (must be sturdy) that I think I'll have to bring it upstairs one piece at a time to assemble it- good thing it has stopped raining for a few hours. I am also getting geared up for Artfest and bought most of the supplies I'll need to make my purses for the gallery. They had some fabulous colored suede at Poppy's Fabrics in Oakland, plus I found some funky orange vinyl in the remnant bin, which should end up being something cool. I've made a few sketches I should scan in and post. Oh guess I better hook up my scanner, huh? I have so much to do- ack I better get back to it.

Salesguys
I overheard the conversation between two obnoxious salesguys at a coffeeshop yesterday. One was the sales manager and the other was a rep jockeying for a better territory, but they were equally full of crap. At one point I even inadvertently laughed at one of the things they were saying and quickly knocked a package off my table to cover it. At one point, the manager was promising the rep increased territory only if he vowed to trust him completely. Listening to that part was like something out of Survivor. And they were so serious! It was like a million dollar salary was on the line, but I could tell from looking at them it was more like $50k a year. They were sitting at the next table and talking very loud, so I didn't have any choice but to hear all of their innane dialogue. One gem the sales manager imparted to his colleague was, "You have to be an effective manager to manage effectively."
Thanks for that pearl of wisdom, I'll get started cross-stitching that into a framed sampler right away.

How to tell if you've given too much money to the DNC
We received a few Christmas cards, including one photo card I didn't recognize anyone on. "Hey Honey," says I, "who is this card from?"
"Tom Daschle."
