what to do what to do
Well I did it- I found an apartment. And I found it using the tried and true method by which I found all of my other places to live in LA. I did what Angelenos do best, of course- drove around. That is right, after going all over the internet and seeing all those places and finding them not quite right, I reverted to my old method of driving around and just looking for signs and lo and behold we found a great place within the right distance from Jonathan's office. As an added bonus there is a really nice gym where Jon works that I get to go to for free, so we also live close to "my gym" now too. We have the corporate apartment until the middle of the month, then we move into our new place where we may or may not have furniture. The moving specialist dude comes today, so hopefully I'll know more about that soon.
So our new place is in one of those giant, ritzy apartment complexes that have a common clubhouse and BBQ areas, heated pools and a business center with free internet. We scored a corner unit on the top floor overlooking one of the pools. Our apartment is tiny (how WILL I share a sink again?) but has all the built ins, including fridge with ice maker and washer/dryer, plus has central air conditioning, new carpet and a vaulted ceiling. It has a large wrap around balcony and I am really looking forward to all the al fresco meals we will enjoy out there. We are really close to the beach which is especially nice, since it means mild weather, better air quality and a cool place to go for walks at sunset. We are 8 miles from a Metro station with parking, so that will be nice too for excursions into the City. Hopefully I can work my commute around the train so I can continue feel like I save the environment by not driving to work. If not, I will have fun reaquainting myself with the best radio market in the country and listen to lectures on tape.
I am really ready for a job and cannot wait to get down there and start networking. I was thinking about getting a purely graphics job, but am finding I miss my old marketing job and working on proposals. There is something exciting and important about winning work through competition, and I love producing paper documents that have to look their best. All my skills and experience point towards that kind of job and I have the highest earning potention going that route, so I plan to focusing on that instead of working on my currently nonexistent portfolio. I think I will renew my Society of Marketing Professionals membership and attend a few meetings of the LA Chapter to see if I can find a position that way, I also have two business contacts with people I worked with before that may lead to something. Very exciting! Now I just need a new printer to start sending out the multitude of resumes and get to being picky about which offer I'll accept.
Once I have a steady stream of income, we plan to come back a few weekends each month to live in our castle in Seattle, where the master bedroom suite is as large as our entire LA apartment, and we can hang out with our housemate, friends and relatives. There is also a really good design institute nearby, so who knows? After I pay off my convertible, I may attend art school at night, like I used to way back when. I have heard it is the third coolest art school in So Cal after CalArts and Art Center, where I used to go. Of course, I could just spend the money on a really nice, gigantic dining room table so everyone could stop having to hear about how I want one.
Oh and shoes. I'll need shoes.
Red ones.

What Happened?
I have been meaning to post like a long FAQ or whatever about what is going on and why no posts, etc. But there is a ton of stuff going on, including adding a new person to our household, Jonathan losing a job and gaining another one, a lot of snow falling on our house in Seattle (not as fun as it sounds), new level 60 WoW toons, looking for an apartment in Los Angeles, dealing with my car being "somewhere in Fresno", and a new haircut with bangs. "WHAT?!" That is probably what you are thinking. All will be explained soon, I promise. Except the bangs. I have no idea what happened there.
But I just had to post this, since you know how I love eavesdropping on "important people". I am working on contract doing some proposal work and they have me in the back of the CAD department, which I like a lot because it is dark and has a lot of computers and I can keep tabs on Dr. Evil without being in line of sight of her. But there is this CAD Manager that talks ALL DAY. I know so much about this guy's family and what goes on in his life, and I've only been here a few days. And all the people in this area, except for me, work for him and have to listen to his stories like they are the gospel from on high. So he stands in the middle of the cubes and proselytizes and they all sit and listen for hours. Today they were all talking about their commutes. (I guess that is what people who have to work in Bellevue talk about.) Anyhow, he was giving a very stern lecture about how you have to take different ways home and change how you get places regularly. The reason? "That is how mob guys get assasinated. If they only took different ways home each night, they'd be fine."
When I get a real job and give up this cushy life of sleeping in and making $1,000 a day, I think I'm going to have to be really picky about the boss I get. I could get excited working in a variety of industries, but without the right management, it just wouldn't be worth it. And hopefully if the mob assasins figure out where I live, they'll tell me, since right now, I don't rightly know myself.
